Start with the job in front of you. New build, repair, or pointing will point you towards the right brickwork supplies, brickwork mortar, or brickwork tools for the finish you need. If you’re patching or repointing, cleaner kit matters more than bulk. On bigger runs, handling and mix consistency soon matter more than anything else.

Ingco Bricklaying Trowel
Professional bricklaying trowel for spreading mortar and laying bricks
You narrow brickwork by space and use before you look at finishes or extras. If access is tight, handling and joint count matter more than anything else, because awkward lengths and heavy kit slow you down and get left behind. For a straight run, you’ll usually want the most efficient layout you can manage. For patching or repointing, smaller, easier-to-control brickwork tools and the right brickwork mortar matter more than bulk. That is what usually changes the order, not the label on the box.
Some brickwork jobs need the full spread of brickwork supplies. Others only need mortar, tools and the right accessories to keep the job moving.
A mixer and bulk materials make sense when you’re working through volume. They’re overkill on smaller repair work, where handling and waste matter more.
Pointing and repair work usually calls for a tighter pick of brickwork tools. The wrong trowel or jointing kit slows you down and makes the finish harder to control.
Building Supplies is the parent range if you’re comparing this against the rest of the department, but most trades will already know if they need general brickwork products or a more specific kit for laying, pointing or cleaning.
Start with the job in front of you. For brickwork, that means materials, tools, or the parts that finish the work.
Bulk mortar, additives and cleaners sit over in Aggregates & Chemicals. Ties, fixings and other hardware are better handled through Builders Metalwork.
That split matters. Choose the wrong basket and you lose time. You end up short on site, or carrying gear you did not need.
For repair and pointing work, keep the kit tight. For larger runs, mortar and handling usually decide what you buy first.
Once you’ve picked the brickwork itself, the next call is what finishes the surrounding job and keeps you moving. If you’re setting out a run or closing up a wall, check whether you need anything from lintels or builders metalwork before you order the rest. That’s often where the spec changes.
For mix and wash-up, aggregates and chemicals come into play next. The wrong mortar or cleaner is what causes the call-back, not the brickwork products themselves. Where the job finishes into another build element, insulation or damp proofing can change what you buy next, so line that up before you load the van.
